My Motu 1224 doesn't have spdif, only AES/EBU. So the only outboard reverbs I can find start at $1,000 for the TC2000 and of course the $2,000 Lexicon stuff. I like my converter a lot but in hindsight I would have rather had the spdif so I could bus out to an inexpensive Roland or some other reverb unit.
I suppose I could bus back and forth through the converters which adds a little latency.

Does anybody know any lower-priced AES capable effects boxes?

Does anybody bus via DA/AD ?

I don't know of any lower priced boxes, but I do know that people are reporting success using adaptors to go from S/PDIF to AES/EBU and vice-versa. Froma simple RCA to XLR (using only pins 1 &2 on the XLR) to the more complicated (and expensive) ones using an impedence matching transformer (75ohm to 110omh with appropriate voltage shift). I believe there are some discussions going on in the d8b and/or HDR forums at Mackie.com.
