Outboard Reverb Question (Digital I/O?)

i used to have a TC M-One XL, which i thought sounded pretty nice. but if i remember correctly, it could only be hooked up digitally (RCA S/PDIF) if the project was 44.1kHz since the internal sampling rate was 44.1kHz. therefore, i had to use the XLR I/O and add an additional AD/DA step of degradation.

now i'm trying to decide if i should be a reverb plugin or a hardware unit, but i'm wondering about digital I/O. most affordable units have internal sampling rates of 44.1 or 48...does that mean, like my old M-One, i can't use the digital I/O if my project is 88.2 or 96?

Internal sampling rate doesn't always relate to the I/O sample rate. The I/O rate is determined by the converters (which can be higher or lower than the internal rate) and is a different spec...

thanks. do you know of any affordable units that will accept 88.2kHz through it's S/PDIF jacks? doesn't look like any of the entry level Lexicon units do...

sorry, should have been more specific about that...

well, to me affordable means $500-$800.
