Can anyone recommend some outboard gear for recording?

I have a Firepod and I can run outboard gear on inputs one and two. I'm thinking about picking up a Sonic Maximizer for tracking guitars. Is there a nice affordable unit for tracking vocals? Is outboard gear even necessary - can I do everything I need to while editing?

Thanks!

We will most likely run Cakewalk. We have Cubase LE (came with the Firepod) and Pro Tools, but we have the most plug-ins for Cakewalk.

Budget... very little... just curious what can be had for the sub $200 range... most of our budget went into the Firepod... lol

Pleeease don't buy a sonic maximizer. I have one and I can say for sure that the only thing it maximizes is shrillness and frustration. Worst $75 bucks I've ever spent on gear.

tc electronic m300 or Lexicon mx200 are both under $200 and offer reverbs, delays, compression, etc....

Are they necessary, no. I have an m300 and use it for something or other on almost every mix.
