Hi all,

Quick question about outboard effects. My setup is SP-B1 > Seasound Solo > Cubase SX. I was thinking about getting a decent quality reverb unit or multi-fx, but I'm not sure if I would be able to record my vocals/instruments dry and then access the rack gear from cubase? From what I've read latency issues makes it a bad idea, but tracking instruments with effects on sounds fraught with potential difficulties come mixing time.

I'm sure I've seen people using cubase but with rack effects - how is it done, if at all?

Many Thanks

I rather having a 0.5ms latency than recording a distorted sound.

I don't know what this means either.

To use external effects, you simply send the track you want to treat to an output on the seasound, route that to the effect, then route the treated sound to your monitors so you can audition it. Once it sounds the way you want it, route the treated sound into your seasound and record it.

Yes, there are latency issues, but whether it's enough to really bother you is another story. If it is, try sliding the treated track around in time until it lines back up with the other tracks. I'm not familiar with Cubase so I don't know how you'd do this.

That means: I don't like to use external effects. I prefer recording a clean sound and process the effects on my computer, even if I have 0.5ms latency, because it sounds better and I can change the effects at any time I want.

Is it clear now? If not I can write in Portuguese for you. :D

I get it.

If you have the CPU cycles to do your effects internally, and you like the results, great.
