Hello,
Not sure if this is the right forum.
I was mixing down to DAT this past week, (Sony PCM-300) and had some issues with the startID's being too close to the, well start. (I use DAT2WAV to extract the audio for editing on another PC -- this is actuall pretty cool, I'd be happy to discuss in another thread, you need an audio capable SCSI DAT drive, not all models will work.) Got digital hash at start of songs from errors, but they play back fine on the PCM-300. So I thought, if they play back fine, why not just copy to another DAT deck (PCM-2500) and use that to "rip" from? (One thing I just thought of I was using a computer grade 120min DAT for the copies, and that length is the far side of recommended...)
Got all sorts of errors going either way. Could not get the PCM-2500 to go into record mode using the S/PDIF input, and got major distortion dubbing on the PCM-300. As for going to the PCM-2500, had SCMS off. Both these a supposed to be 'pro' decks so copy protection shouodn't be an issue.
Any ideas?
I'm assuming this may have something to do with bad clock sync or something, (or the 60meter tape?) and I don't have a manual for the PCM-300. I am fairly new to digital overall. BTW, had no trouble using the S/PDIF input on a soundcard, but had a high level of clicks and pops on that (MAXI ISIS on an old old K-6II/350 that I mostly use for sequencing.) Couldn't get the S/PDIF input working on the other machine that has the M-Audio card (running LInux so it is strictily a software issue.)
Thanks
