I need a PS-P424. I've sent email to Tascam's Parts Dept., but is there any online source I can buy it from?

I was set to order one from tascam, but luckily my local music store sold me one. At $5 less than teac charges for the order, it still ran $60. Damned Extortionists!-lzb

Thanks for the tip. They actually had it in stock? Guess I'll try my local Guitar Center.

I was thinking of getting a 12V 1200ma Radio Shack supply, which should be overkill power-wise and would cost under $30, but I chickened out.

I know what you mean. The 424 calls for an 1100 mA feed.
At the price of a 424 I'd be chicken too.
Buk gaaaak!
But before you get all henny penny, listen to <these> facts. Earlier today I mistakenly plugged my Porta-07 into the power supply for my Kawai keyboard. OOPS! The Portastudio power supply takes a 12V 600 mA feed. The Kawai uses a 10V 1000 mA feed. The Portastudio didn't notice the difference!!!

Rossentj,

Check out the thread in Newbies about AC/DC. Hopefully it will prevent you from getting burned the way I did on the ps-424. BTW nobody who is selling this thing is going to give you a straight answer whether you can pick up a cheaper converter. Oh well, live and learn... lzb

[Lazyboy,

As far as power goes, the Radio Shack alternative would be OK - I'm more worried about connector size - none of that stuff seems to be standard. I got the guy at my local Guitar Center on the case - he'll get me the GC price on the Tascam part, and I'll probably go with that.

drstawl,

Different voltages? Sheesh! Probably not a good idea. Glad your equipment is still OK.

Lazyboy,

Check your blood pressure and be sure you're sitting down before you read on.

Here's the essence of the email reply I got from Tascam:

"The power supply for model 424, p/n 5347019000, is available at $36.74
each."

That's not far from what Radio Shack wanted, so I guess I'll go with it.

See now if I had ordered from them, I would've kept the receipt and i'd be calling to give them a first class bitching out right now. But that's the quote they gave me.
Am I allowed to call them motherfuckers in this forum?

Hey, you're the senior member, whatever that means - don't ask me.

In fairness to them, the Guitar Center guy told me Sunday that they had (recently?) obsoleted the original 424. I don't know why that would account for the price drop, but it might.
