Hi,

I'm about to start recording a 4 track album and wondered if this was the most sensible order...

1. rhythm guitar (acoustic) - track 1
2. bass + drums - track 2
3. lead guitar - track 3
4. vocals and backing vocals - track 4

thanks :)

Start with harmonica...

wait what thread am I in?

are you playing each instrument yourself or is there a band involved?

I'd switch around tracks one and two. I personally feel drums should come before bass and bass should come before any guitars.

Harmonica...hahaha. I personally use scratch guitar and vox track to record the drums to so that they are solid.

Haha yeah I did see the other thread... :D

Is a scratch track just a guide track? So lay the acoustic down first, then do drums/bass, then put the actual final acoustic down on top? And is it recommended how I've split the tracks? I only have 4 to play with

Just out of interest, what are you recording on ? Reel to reel, cassette based portastudio or digital 4 track ? Or something else ? There's a possibility that you could get away with some track bouncing, depending on what you're recording on.

For me a scratch track is just playing the track through - it might have some mistakes and i might want to go back and redo it - or I might end up keeping it cause I usually play it awesome anyway :p

Ahh ok thanks :)

It's a cassette portastudio, so not much room for...doing extra ha

always harmonica first. seriously i like to do scratch guitar then drums then re do the guitars then bass then vocals
