Opus 69

can somebody give me his opinion on beyerdynamic opus 69. i've been testing him in a local store and it sounds better than SM58.. the sound is more clearer than on SM58 .. it also (in my opinion) sound beter than Beta58. do you have any experiance with it that you can share with me. i am planing to use the mic on gigs and for band practices.
 
I've been using the Opus 69 for 4 years and I love it.
It's got a wonderful low end and proximity effect but it doesn't get boomy.

There's a live clip on the front page of my website that uses the Opus 69 for lead vox and also the KEL HM-1 on guitar.

The Kel is mentioned quite often here and it's a bargain multi purpose mic.

Your recording sounds great and it ain't all because of the microphones. Still the mics have to be good to capture that rugged vocal and squeaky clean Blues guitar.

I run a Blues website and I'm sending you an email.

Looks like both these mics can be had close to $100. I'm going to see how they go used and if you can get them used for $60 or less I'm adding them to my fifty buck mic thread.

I know Beyerdynamic does the TGX range i.e the TG-X60 or TG0X80.

I wonder if there is a major difference between the TGX range and the Opus range?

The Opus 69 sounds great with your band hairylarry.
The sound quality of your mix is awesome.

That's not my band. That's MoDog's band The Doghouse Daddies. I agree with you opinion on the mix. They cook.

I play a lot of Blues as well as other stuff and I do play electric at jam sessions but I've gone to entirely acoustic when playing out.

I bought my Opus 69 at Sweetwater for $219.

I was in the Ft. Wayne area and had my salesman get a batch of vocal mics ready for me to try out.
I was looking for a replacement for my EV ND757 that was a great mic in it's own right (Matter of fact I still use the 757 on Sax) and was willing to spend $250- $300 dollars.

In a field of half a dozen mics from as many different companies with prices from $200 to $300 the Opus stood out to me.

The only complaint I have about this mic is the clip they supply with it. It just does not hold the mic securely enough. I use a Shure clip that fits the SM58.

I broke one Opus 69 when it slipped out of the Beyer supplied clip and bounce off of a concrete floor. I called Beyer and they wanted too much money to repair it so I called and griped at Sweetwater and they replaced it for free. They may not be the cheapest place to buy things but their service after the sale is second to none.

Speaking of Demos.

We were working on the bandshell and Demo came out to the park and invited us all over for lunch. We got a table and everybody ordered and, as you mentioned, the food is great. When it came time to settle up the bill he got it all backwards.

Not only did he feed us but instead of us giving him a check he gave us a fifty dollar check for the bandshell. Now that's what it takes to make a venue for free music in the city park.

Another similar story.

Willie Cobbs wanted to help us out. He was friends with Joe Lee back in Memphis before he ever got a break and we helped him on Delta Boogie so he wanted to play for us and help us raise money for the bandshell. He had a gig in Marianna, I think, on Saturday and he came up on Sunday afternoon to play. For free.

Yep, he played for free and he paid his band and then he gave us a hundred bucks for the bandshell.

And the band? The Hodges Brothers with Teenie Hodges on guitar. The guy who wrote "Love, Peace, and Happiness". In case you're not familiar with The Hodges Brothers they were Al Green's band before they played with Willie Cobbs.

So many musicians and music fans helped us like that. We never could have done it without them. But they knew. We were doing it for them.
