My God! On New Year's Eve, I get to record 2 full orchestras at Mechanic's Hall in Worcester Mass.! Your basic 35 million dollar facility, orchestras from Europe pay thousands to record there. I also get to jack into their patch bay and their built in mic clusters from hell! I could use their mixing console also, but I'll probably KISS it, and record in stereo with the Avalon, and bypass their board entirely. This is where I know I'm really clueless. But what the hell, I didn't propose this, and I have promised no one anything, except that I'll give it a shot. Cool beans!-Richie

Hey that's cool.
Let me know if you want to borrow my delta 44. It rocks man

I would be that there are many articles by some of the outstanding pros that do that sort of recording all the time. I would search them out and see if I could learn anything about it. If you manage to get something great you could be on the cusp of a new career...or not.

I'm thinking as long as I keep it simple, it should be fairly easy. They've already got high end X-Y, M-S, and spaced mics mounted in ideal acoustic positions. I'll probably just select a good spaced pair, jack them into my Avalon, run them fairly hot, and smile. Just in case, I'll bring my own mics and stands, and I'm likely to use X-Y or ORTF. I am, however, considering a Decca tree, which I could do with 2 C-4's and an AKG C414B-ULS. That would require 3 channels, however, and the third channel would have to be a Joemeek twinQ or DBX386. On that basis, I'll probably stick to 2 mics and the Avalon.-Richie
