Okay guys, i'm feeling really scared now. I was feeling confident about this track, and i've listened to a few of yours... and now, the confidence levels are dropping very quickly...

especially compared to the "Toad the Wet Sprocket" track. Nice one, i liked it a lot.

Anyway, the track i'm donating was done by a friend of mine, in my shoebox of a studio. When I say shoebox... I mean... Shoebox.

www.shoeboxstudios.co.uk

The track is called "Spoke in the Wheel", I think it's either an Alman brothers song or one by Zack Wylde. Seriously, all I did was hit the record button and let a guitarist friend of mine take over. He also did the vocals.

Anyway.... to let you know, it was recorded in small bedroom, with 1 mic for guitar and vox. An Allen & Heath Mixer was used along with a cheap'n'nasty AKG microphone.

The guitar parts were deliberately shifted in the mix. But, i'm really starting to wish i hadn't. This is a first 'proper' recording session for me. I know there's a long way to improve. Or at least that's what my intention is.

Have fun guys, o hope you like it. No promises okay?

It sounds like a very good mix. Everything is tight controlled.

Is the vox dead center. It seems a little bit to the right but I am not sure.

What mic did you use on this?

No comments on the mix. Its good

Thank god for that.

I'm telling you, i've had the longest weekend in creation waiting for an opinion. I was just waiting for someone to comment about a flaw i'd never heard before. And then every time i listened to it, it'd be the only flaw i'd hear.

CyanJaguar - I'm not sure which microphone it was, i think it was a $70 AKG dynamic. I really can't remember, because I borrowed it off a friend. (as I didn't even have mic's at the time)

Any other opinions floating around???

Great guitar work.

The vocals are a bit on the low end. They need a little more crystal clearness in the high end.

But as far as the song and mix itself....I give you an A- :)

:D :D :D

You really have made my day!!!!

I think i have proof that even with the best equipment, you won't always get a good mix, and with low end equipment, it's possible to get a good final product.

I'm so happy now :D

I'm hoping to get that guitarist back into my 'studio' within the next 6 months. He's a natural, i'm so jelous of him, but, when your working with quality musicians, the recording process is so much easier.

I think we all know what moody singers are like...

have fun, and thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!
