Opinions wanted

We are looking to purchase a Mackie 24 channel 8 buss desk as well as a Fostex D16 h/disc recorder. If anyone has used either of these, I would like to hear your opinions.

Also, realisically, how much difference is there between 20bit/44khz and 24bit/96khz.
