Here's my axe:

IBM 2174-590.
Windows 98 SE.
Two HD's for a total max of 60-GB's.
Total 224 MB's RAM.
Delta 66/OMNI Audio Station.
Sonar 2.1XL
Pluggin's: Antares Mic Mod, Auto-Tune, dB-Audio pack, Ultra-funk FX audio pack and Cool Edit Pro 2.0.

Here's my question: I read Scott Garrigus's issue 14 review on www.digifreq.com about audio performance. (I assume he's got a an old axe set-up similer to mine). He suggest that the virtual memory Min/Max settings should be from 2-4 times that of one's RAM. (In my case 2x's would be a setting of 448).

On a differant article I read that if one has more then 128 MB's of RAM, (I have 224), then the Min/Max settings should be no more 250. I really could'nt tell the difference between either settings because my system works great either way.

Being Anal I ran a Win-Tune test on both settings and here's what I came up with: The uncached transfer rate for the setting of 2x's that of one's RAM is 4.163 MB per second. The uncached transfer rate for a setting of 250 is 4.2622 MB per second.

Cakewalk suggest that anything above 3 MB's is good performance. I guess I'll stick with 250 for my virtual Min/Max settings since my uncached transfer rate is now 4.26 MB per second. What do you guys think of my axe?

...Hey, never tried my self this section before. I'll give mine a shoot. Thanks for the idea... Anyway, if it screams... then it's screamin'. !!! :D

'They' say that up to 512 MB RAM, you should set the amount of Virtual Memory to 1.5 times the amount of RAM you have.

From and including 512 MB RAM, lock Virtual Memory to 512 MB.

Moskus,

The proof is in the Win-Tune results. I've yet to try the 512MB setting. I'll check tonite after rehearsal and I'll post the results. Key note is what Cakewalk suggest; any uncached transfer rate above 3 MB's per second is very good for Sonar.
