Opinions on vocal on this collaboration

Still in the very rough stages of mix, need to scoop and duck the guitars behind the vocal, but I asked the singer (who is co-writer for song, she wrote music and some lyrics) if she wanted to try some more takes. She's just not used to singing this style of song, her usual stuff is light/countryish or kids' songs.

Most likely all those views are web bots of some sort. Seach engines, spam-bots, etc.

To embed a Soundcloud link, open the Advanced Post editor and there is an icon for SoundCloud. You just put your url between the tags. I took the liberty of doing it for you. (I think - not seeing it now)

Thanks, Chili! In ... umm ... how many years since I joined (OMG - 7!) - I never used the Advanced editor! Well, at least I learned something today - training at work for 5 hours was a total waste.

Yeah she needs to get into way more. Her vocals are very timid and weak sounding. Pitchy as hell too. And the timing issues all over the places don't help the song overall. But strictly speaking vocals, I don't think it's too good. It's really bad. She's not cut out for this kind of song.

That's what she thinks, too. I didn't correct pitch at all on it, need to apply a little to most of her stuff.

Along with the points already raised, I must say there is a noticeably broad dynamic range in her voice, it drops too quiet on several occasions, so definitely compress the vocals, and maybe get her to sing more consistently.

She sounds like she'd sit better in a different musical setting.
The timing issues may have put her off her game - there are some doozies.
The song could be remodelled in a more suitable style for her voice.
You certainly ought to get her to rerecord to fix the pitch issues & not allow her to rely on technology to do so.
If she was more aggressive you could almost set this as a Big Brother & the Holding Company style thing but as it is she's too timid and the backing is too erratic.
