ive never owned an alesis but i owned one dbx 266xl and i bought a another one because i liked it so much. theyve always done me well when i really needed them. They took a little getting used to, but are useful and very transparent.
Never did get the 3630 adjusted right.. The Dbx266xl is almost set and forget. I have since replaced it with a Lexicon 550..The built in compressor can be set for different presets or custom sets and might even be better than the 266xl.
dbx or the older Alesis Micro Limiter. The Micro Limiter is a well-designed soft-knee comp limiter. It is easy to use and sounds great. No relation at all to the newer 3630, which is an inferior product. There are mods to improve the 3630, but it's a lot of work.
The Micro Limiter is underrated... or maybe more like not widely known these days. I've had two since they first came out. Excellent product, Made in USA by the real Alesis before all the outsourcing began.
They sell for much less then they're worth on eBay. They're a steal for $50.00 or less. At that price you can get a Micro Limiter and still have money for a dbx model. You can never have too many Comp/limiters.
Yes indeed, and cost more than the unit itself. IMO, I'd rather spend my $$$ on a nice new unit that works without any mods. The RNC is a nice lil' unit too.
