Hi guys!

I've just ordered a bunch of mics to add to my collection and am going to be traveling and doing some backpack/laptop mobile recording over the next year or so. I'll be leaving much of home studio's rack gear and preamps behind.

I've got an Edirol 101 interface that will be going mobile with me. This interface has 2 mic pres and a bunch of line level inputs on the back. I'm looking for an affordable half-rack, four or so input input preamp that I can easily fit in my backpack with everything else. I'd just run balanced patches from it to the line level ins of the Edirol...broading my mic input flexibility from 2 (on the front of the edirol) to 6 or so (using the line level ins on the back).

I came across this unit but don't know if it is complete garbage... or possibly usable with decent results? Any opinions or suggestions on other units would be much appreciated. :)

Cheers!
Samantha

You get what you pay for.

But if that's all you can afford and you need a lot of channels and outs, you are not going to have much of a choice.

Thanks guys. :)

Yeah... I searched around a bit more and that seems to be the only solution available for my current needs.

Cheers,
Samantha

I recall the SM stuff is popular with modders, since the price of the unit is cheaper than the parts cost of the box, connectors, & power supply :) But other than that, I don't know how it sounds.
