have'nt used it. the layout looks simple. only one stereo out though. i would imagine that it sounds as good as any of the other low budget boards. who knows, maybe better. says it uses thru hole components so repairs should'nt be bad.

Only thing I don't like about it, and it's purely cosmetic, I'm a fader kinda guy lol. Otherwise, the single stereo out will do me just fine, and I'm going to be needing the extra channels (have 12 atm) Just curious how much better the pres would be compared to say, Behringer...

Ive owned this board for three years. I own pretty much all Carvin equipment and I find it very well built. I mainly use this with a Fostex reel to reel 8 track. It hasn't given me any trouble at all and it is very quite. I like faders too until they get dirty.

sweet, I'm thinking about getting this when I upgrade my board, thanks for the input guys!

I was looking into that too, I've still got some time before I upgrade, just playing the field atm. Thanks for the input!

Consider the MG series from Yamaha, too.

Ok, what's the meaning of this? APL recommending a yammy over the almighty CARVIN! My monitor must be playing tricks on my eyes.

I think the Yammy MG series represents tremendous value. The Carvin fits right between their $200 and $280 offerings.

That Yamaha looks pretty sweet, how do the Pres stack up against some stand alone pres?

Basically, what I'm wanting to evolve into, is a 16 channel board (a few stereo ins is fine) and I'm wanting to get into a few better mic preamps (I'll only need 4 at a time), do the guys with this board actually use the onboard pres or do they go with stand alone type pres? I know this is more of a matter of preference, just wondering about the useability of the yamaha pres.

Keep the great insight coming guys, much appreciated.

I've got the MG10/2, and so far I can't complain about the pres. They're good enough for what I do. Seem to be pretty clean and uncolored.

Sounds like a winner to me.

EDIT - Disregard, I can read, I promise

Anyone know how many rack spaces the 16/4 takes up?

Scroll down on that musician's friend page and there are links to the manual and specs. It looks like it's 16 or 17 inches of rack.

I actually owned this mixer (the Carvin) for about 10 years. Neat little mixer, though I was having problems picking up radio frequencies. Admittedly, it may have been a result of two or three factors, but the mixer was definitely a contributor.

To be fair, the model currently available is a tad different from my SM162, so in addition to a few new features, it may contain newer, better components.

In any case, I would also recommend the Yamaha MG series over the Carvin.

There great litttle boards I had one for about 3 years and never failed me I used mine with Gina and Cooledit and cranked out some decent demo's for a few bands. Now I own their 24 channel board with a HD24 and still crank out decent mixes. Alot of people dish Carvin for all kinds of reason but I'm a Carvin fan I own alot of their products and always been there for me.

Call me a tard, but two XLR outs and 2 1/4" out equals two stereo outs, no!?!

two sets from the same bus. i don't know how useful that really is.
