Is there a way to open a .wrk file created in HS 2002 with Sonar 1, or any other Cakewalk project? I sent a CD of files created in HS to a friend with Sonar, and when he tried to open them he got an error message saying that the files were created with pre-release software and could not be opened.

I half expected that different Cakewalk programs would be able to open files created by each other. Any thoughts?

The programs are backward compatible, but not forward compatible. In other words, Sonar can open PA9's .wrk files, but PA9 can not open Sonar's .cwp files.

I'm not sure about cross platform compatibility (e.g., HS to Sonar), but I would think you should be able to do this. At least I would think that Sonar should be able open HS2002 files. Not too sure about the reverse.

One thought. When you install Sonar it asks what file types you want associated with it. One of the choices is .wrk. I don't know exactly what this option does. I assumed it had to do with Windows knowing what program to use to open these types of files. Perhaps, though, your friend didn't choose this option and that is what is causing the problem. Just a guess.
