Oh boy did I take two huge steps backward last night. I was trying to disable the onboard soundcard on my computer to allow the Delta 44 to be the only operating card. I disabled the SIS7012 from System Settings, but when I went to reboot, the computer wouldn't shut down, and gave me an ominous Rundll32 error.

Now when I try to open system settings, or audio settings, the hard drive creeps along for what must be 10 minutes before opening the window.

Damn, I've made things worse. Luckily I can take the box into the store and they'll fix it for me (special service contract)...but any clue what I did?

Happy to provide more info/specifics if required.

Was the onboard soundcard set as the default playback device?

I've heard that can cause problems like that...

No, but is was enabled

I guess I'll have to take it in. One more thing, the drivers for the Delta 44 say "Enabled But Not Started"...what does this mean?

All better...

Fixed the problem, there was another driver trying to act as the WDM driver. Something called MCCWDM, so I uninstalled it and all is well. The original problem of the soundcard not playing CD's, or acting as a soundcard for other system sounds is also fixed.

Now I just have to remember how to play the guitar...I haven't picked it up in a week!

bios

You should go into the BIOS and disable the onboard sound altogether so your OS doesn't even know it's there. Even if it's disabled or not set as your primary sound device it's still taking up resources in your OS.
