Well, I stumped the tech support at Mackie today.
If you're firewire start to act weird, like when playing back audio through the onyx mixer and the sound drops out for a moment and a high pitch signal ensues for a moment, then you'll probably need to get a new firewire card, assuming you're using the motherboard's firewire originally.
Tech support could't really tell what was going on, and as far as I could tell they hadn't dealt with it before. Thus...I'm posting this incase someone gets this rare bug as well.
