Hello all,

I'm new here and have a question for the people with more experience in computer recording.

I have a new Imac with only one Firewire port. I have a audio interface conected to this Firewire port and need to connect too a external hard disc but I think that the external HD works better with a Firewire connection that across USB.

Can anyone help me to found the more adecuate solution to this limitation?

Thank you in advanced.

Read up about firewire. Firewire devices are made to be daisy-chained together (up to 167 on one port...)

Check out your interface specifications, some manufacturers dont write their drivers properly and dont reccomend daisy-chaining.
For example: I've been using a Motu828mkII hooked up to a Glyph firewire drive for years with ZERO problems.

(Better bet: Get a drive with combo interfaces. You can get 'em with USB2, Firewire AND eSata in one box.... hook it up however best it works for you....)

You should have no problems daisy chaining your external hdd to your interface, providing that one of them has two firewire ports.

I use Presonus Firepods connected to my external hdd with no problems.
