Nice!! Shure's got a lot of really good documents like that up on their site - definitely worth looking through / reading

That particular doc should be required reading for bozos like me, imo.

Its printable too...just in case you wanted to put it in a binder...Ill normally save it to a special file that I put all the tutorials in so I can refer to them while Im working with my DAW.

Of course it's just as applicable as the day it was done, but how old is that tut? It doesn't even list SM-81. I was expecting to see pictures of the engineers in crew cuts with ties!-Richie

From the orig pdf: "use your ears. If it sounds good it is good." Very good.

"place the mic in front of the ac guitar soundhole as a starting point." I wouldn't do that myself. Sometimes with an omni, but not usually that either.

Have to have been updated this year; it has all of their most recent model changes. Anyway, they are pushing the KSMs, which they should, the KSM141 is a better mic than the SM81, hands down. In fact they should have mentioned it in every instrument or ensemble category ahead of the KSM137, which is the same mic minus the omni pattern (which sounds gorgeous).

I saw where they showed them in the pictures...but not mention any models in the writing...notice how they used KSM32 mics as overheads instead of SDC mics.
