Is anyone familiar with "Musicians University" it's an online school that offers classes in producing, recording, music classes(begginner, intermediate, advanced, writing & composing) the courses are dirt cheap but I was wondering whether or not anyone has been that route. :o

personally i don't see how the hell you could learn much about recording, especially how to use consoles, without one in front of you.
i would steer clear of these schools, better off investing in one of the big respected schools in the industry with experienced faculty, connected intern department, and 24 hour access to top shelf gear and studios.
"online" audio engineering school's got to be a joke.

here's some courses -

:D

I would be leary, There is no substitute for a real live teacher. I could not imagine trying to learn that saxophone without having a real instucter

o I thought you were talking about engineering school, as far as learning an instrument, while it's certainly helpful to have a teacher, you can teach yourself. get some mel bay or hal leanord books and a metronome, i taught myself theory and bass. As far as really getting into music theory as oppoesed to just learning an instrument, I would suggest a university course in it.

but as far as their "recording" and chuckle chuckle "producer" classes, I'd just laugh.

my feelings exactly.....figured i'd ask though. the bass class does interest me
...i'll keep everyone posted

when I was learning jazz it was good to have a teacher because we don't really have a lesson, we just sort of jam and it has been the best way to learn be-bop

but as far as their "recording" and chuckle chuckle "producer" classes, I'd just laugh.

WTF? Whats wrong with online classes? Sure, your not going to be using a SSL Console, but it still teaches the fundamentals. Recording classes I could see being a little tough, but producer ones too? They teach more than mixing and recording, such as music theory, music business, writing and arrangement, professional workflow, etc...
