Alright, so here’s the deal:

I want to buy a microphone for recording vocals on my bedroom. I’ve searched the web high and low for opinions on what’s the best budget mic (less than 100$) for singing/screaming. Problem is, the opinions I’ve found only make it harder to decide… So here’s the full rundown:

Microphone for bedroom recording
Budget: 100 $
Music Style: Singing/Screaming (Post-Hardcore in the vein of Glassjaw, The Fall of Troy)

My room is untreated, but I live in the suburbs and I get almost no noise in there.

Basically, I’ve narrowed it down to these two:

- Studio Projects B1, condenser (better for singing, but will it be able to handle screaming?)
- Shure SM57, dynamic (better for screaming, but will the singing sound good?)

The mic will be connected to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4.

As you can see, my problem resides in choosing dynamic vs condenser. Note that the mic will be EXCLUSIVELY FOR VOCALS.

Cheers!

I have a SP B1. Good mic for the price. I almost always use it for recording acoustic guitar. It's nice and bright and clear. I don't think I'd want someone shouting and spitting into it though.

I would say a trusty ol' SM58 would do the job. Given that people who generally sing/shout this style like to move around a lot with the mic held close, you couldn't go wrong. You could find it difficult to stand still in front of a condenser and do it the same and not get the same feeling/energy.

I'm no expert though, just my opinion.

Until the next one.....:thumbs up:

If your room is untreated, then a dynamic that you can get close to is oging to be better than a condensor which will pick up the unwanted room reflections.
