Well, this is just a little bit of goof I thought I'd share. I been mixing and recording like a madman lately, so what do I do to take a break? Record something else.:)

I didn't put anywhere near as much time into this as I usually do, but I kinda got a kick out of it, and since there's a bunch of blues-oriented dudes on the board...

"Hungry Man"

Very cool! Are you using a real upright bass?If not it is a good imitation.
Think I'll go make a samitch cause I'm feeling hungry all of a sudden.

Damn, man - lyrics just flow out of you, don't they? You must think a lot.
"sweet or salty, tender or tough, I ain't gonna stop till I've had enough"

Those are words to live by!! (you mind if I put that on my business cards?)

I like the vibe of this tune - real, no-shit bluesy - and some interesting subject matter - makes me listen intently.

As a critique and/or a question...to my ears the room sound from the amp doesn't match with the verb on the vocal or the background.

I agree with sheppardb, the bass really gets close to stand-up sound. So how'd you do that? You've said that bass gives you fits but that one sounds pretty cool.

Gotta go get me some jelly roll, man - ciao
Milan

I like the guitar tone........this has that Brian Setzer kinds vibe.........

maybe a touch less verb on the guitar would bring it in closer, but it's not bad as is........

fun stuff.......

Hey, keep up the good work Groucho. I'm glad to hear you are on a recording tear. Man there is nothing i love more than a good window of production work.

Haha, your voice is so funny for this. This reminds me of the band that all the characters in Swingers are dancing too when Jon Farveau meets Heather Graham.

Cool tones, i agree on the Setzer thing.

Yo Grouch

It sounds like you broke into the old Sun Records studio and warmed up the old gear for this one.
I'd love to be your bass man in a live situation on this one!
slumped at the table...........:D

I LOVE this song:cool:

You are one true stray cat! Very nice feel and groove on this one.

I could only echo the sentiments that the different verbs on each instrument, kind of make the recording sound dis-jointed.

In my opinion, music like this has got to sound live, even if it wasn't tracked that way. A cohesive room simulation on everything would go toward that goal.

The drums sounded very good but, a little all over the place, level wise. I know live playing will give those kind of dynamics but, perhaps a little more steady volume from the kit would please a world that has become used to the more constant levels of way too much stuff out there. I'm not sure if this is right for your tune but, just a feeling.

The singing was first rate, smooth, comfortable and born for this type of rock-a-billy blues. Do you smoke 5 packs a day? Aspirering, gruffly voiced singers want to know!

Cheers!:)

NICE. Got Marilyn Hungry and she's already a JUMBO blonde.

Bb.

Go for it!

Man.... it was all good. The drums were astounding! Great break starting at 2:15. Super guitar tone. Vocal kinda reminds me of new Dylan album. (only better) :)

Thanks to all y'all who responded. I thought you guys might be amused by this one. I was.:D

SHEPPARD: Ha! Finally some compliments on my bass sound. And it's... loops! Yep, it ain't a real bass. It's a series of loops from the now-defunct Loopology.com. However, I will take some credit, since the original loops had no balls to em' at all and I processed the snot out of them to get them to "rumble" more.

MC: I want a copy of that business card.:) Yeah, I agree with you (and the others) who said the guitar and vox seem to kinda be in different spaces. That was kind of what I was trying to do, but I may have gone too far with it. Incidentally there was no verb used at all on this one - only different delays.

Powderfinger & Khompy: Thanks for the listen guys. I believe that band from the movie was Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. I saw them a couple times when I lived in LA. That brief little period where swing music was trendy was kinda cool, since I've always dug that era of music and for awhile there I could actually hear a reasonably compenent approximation of it in the bars.

Alas, now the hipsters have moved on to other fads.

Hevy: You got it! I was going for that Sun sound - only a little less slapback. No one loves that early Elvis stuff more than me and even I'd lighten up on the delay a tad.:)

Ghost: Thanks for the comments. I'm gonna take a look at those drums. I think I agree that they could be leveled out a little dynamics-wise. Oh: quit cigarettes finally about 8 months ago, but the damage has been done I suppose...

Sluice: :D

drstawl: Thanks for the listen and words! Much appreciated.

kjam: Heh, more compliments on my loops - I guess those 4 hours slumped in front of the computer inserting little fills and rolls are finally paying off! And yeah, I've listened the pants off that newest Dylan record. And NO ONE does it better (but thanks.:)).

Chris

Doc MADE me DL this last night. Great stuff, great lyrics! Just sounds like a lot of fun going on... nothing too serious, but serious enough, and I like that sort of stuff;)

I was going to tell you that your stuff isn't reminding me of Rube Waddell as much anymore, until I heard this! Very cool! For a guy who knows how to put a song together so well you sure got some nice geetar chops. And that is one of the coolest, if not the coolest programmed drum part I've heard. You know how to think like a jazzy/blues drummer.

I could stand to hear some more bass, kick, cymbals and hi-hat. Other than that very, very cool!

Thanks fprod and thanks Fmaha... um, er...

thanks, buddy.:D

I've played this for a few friends and each one of them asked me who the drummer was. First time ever I've actually fooled anyone with my fake drums.

Usually it's "what's up with those bad drums, dude?".

What joy, what rapture.

Chris

lol, too cool.

Are those sequenced drums, hopy jumpin', they sound great. That's got to be a real drummer.
I like the stage band mix with the lead parts way in front of the band, but I think the bass has to come up.

Loved the guitar.
