Onboard Sound

Does anyone have experience with the onboard sound on the M7VIT Pro motherboard?

I just purchased a new computer. It was designed as a gaming system, so it has plenty of RAM (512 MB), a GeForce 4 video card, and an Athlon XP processor. Now to fit it out for recording work. The motherboard is an M7VIT Pro, and it seems to have pretty good onboard sound.

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz in another machine that I was planning on installing, but I'm beginning to wonder if the onboad sound capabilities are already at the standard of the Santa Cruz.

Anyone able to help me here?

Onboard sound is a standard and not really geared for pro recording. Do yourself a favor and pick up a descent card (low budget if your tight on dough) like and audiophile 2496 for example. (PCI card) disable onboard sound when using an audio card.
 
If all you want to do is record stereo at 16 bit / 44k, the onboard sound hardware is probably going to be as good as the Turtre Beach. It wont be 24 bit, and if thats what you want, I would agree with Stealthtech.
 
Thanks for the info - I ordered an Audiophile 2496 today. Now to work out how to disable the onboard sound...

According to google onboard sound can be disabled in the bios. When your computer starts up press "esc" or "delete" to get into the bios...If those don't work look at the screen and somewhere in the startup it will say "press *** to access setup" or access config or something like that.

Some Bios's will allow that and others wont. If you cant get to it from the Bios then you can disable thru device manager by clicking properties and the (enable/disable setting) at bottom of window. PS...I think you will be quite satisfied with the AP.
