This was a great reminder regarding how to get out of the rut, or writer's block. But I would like to state that I somewhat disagree with the closing statement...

"You might laugh and say why do I say “buy life experience”? Sounds like a video game. I say this because we have become very sedentary, experiencing life online for free. This is not true physical life experience, quality one that will create inspiration. And unfortunately, the moment you step out the door to do anything, it costs money."

There are may "life experiences" that do not cost money, or at least at minimal cost, which may be beneficial to relieve writer's block. The real problem lies in the fact that we have forgotten how to have life experiences that do NOT require money, other than surfing the web.

How about you? What experiences/activities can you name that are either free or have minimal cost?

I think perhaps the statement is generalizing a touch, I certainly am not part of that "we" as I have a very full and varied life which for the most part costs very little. I'd like to say my tone is that of a man with a smile on his face an a tongue in his cheek, although I couldn't go into details in respect of whose tongue it is. I'm fifty and I still find the allure of the right woman sufficient to compose a whole set of albums. I'm very generous and very selfish at the same time as I get what I want out of life with no compromise, although being aware of what is just close enough to my grasp to enable me to stretch a little for it does help. An evening of seduction with the wife costs very little, the fact she's half my age costs me absolutely nothing. I have a very active imagination and I can visualize and virtually role play situations in my mind which costs nothing.

I am moved emotionally by many things on many occasions which in turn inspires me, total cost=nothing.

I grew up with very little and made virtually everything I valued as a young lad, wandering the meadows and woodlands, I've had unpleasant things done to me, I've done unpleasant things to others. I do agree in respect of keyboard warriors, yep I worked on couple of serious writing forums for a few years and met, no end of folk who could spell shit but had no idea what it tastes like. They read a book and added water, unfortunately the end result is often a pile of rather bland looking pulp. I'm sure there are loads of people who have had a life which makes mine look pale, I'd still settle for mine as it has been truly inspiring and the highlights cost the least, other than the lines on my face and a prevalence of grey hair.

all the best

Tim

Low cost life experiance can mean many things to many people. I find that engaging in personal conversatons with people who come from a different background or culture can provide insight and enlightenment. Conversations with older people who lived through the great depression or World War 2 can be very rewarding.

Zoos, art museums and libraries can be low cost ways to gain experiance and insight to life. Traveling to new places can be create very memorable experiances (even if it is only a weekend trip to a different part of your state/country.

Reading newspapers and magazines can open up a varied source or potential topics to write about. Hanging out at a local park or local beach (if you have access to water) or even a bar or coffee house - can be great opportunities to people watch - which often can trigger some creativity (I've written several songs about characters I observed and than created a "story line").

But more than anything - one gains life experiance .......... from living.

This is so simple and profound that few will take it ! It has to be more complex than that !!

A REALLY bad Australian band of the 70's had a very minor hit, (based on fan loyalty rather than anything else), with a song that had the following refrain...
"LIFE! Life is for living!"
The song stunk but the message is as axiomatic as open your eyes to see, if you listen you will hear etc etc.
It didn't really work too well on our versin of TOTPs.

It's an editorial - just one person's opinion. Doesn't make it true. You either agree or disagree.

The comment is also showing other websites - just Google it and you'll see it's on at least 3 other sites.
Maybe they own those sites too and recycle the comment or maybe they plagiarized. Hard to say unless they step in here and comment.

Great question. I don't think many of us have the answer to that
