I'm new to this site. Is this the appropriate thread to post a problem with the operation of a compact portable recorder like the Olympus LS-10? If not here, then where?
Thanks

Yes. It's been a little while but to my best recollection, they wanted a fee for support. That's when I started looking for a good forum through which I might be able to get some help.
Thanks for moving my post and for your prompt response. You've given me a good first impression of the quality of the folks on here.

Anyway, here's my pre-composed question:

Does anybody have any experience with the Olympus LS-10? I have one and it's GREAT as a recorder. However, when I put any kind of file from my computer onto its internal OR card memory, I almost always get no playback accompanied by an ILLEGAL FILE error. Yes, I have tried using Realplayer and Windows Media Player sync, both to no avail. Recording format doesn't seem to matter - mp3, wma, wav. This is especially puzzling and frustrating because I only work with original recordings! Other forums have cited things like audio format and file size as the cause (apparently I'm not the only one to have experienced this situation), but none of those seem to matter either. One post said that doing a factory reset might not only not fix the problem but, instead, that it might actually be the CAUSE of the problem; I was able to play some files before I tried resetting to factory config. I've also installed Olympus's one firmware update.

Please H E L P !

i doubt anyone here has experience with that device, it has never come up in discussion. It sounds like you've been looking around a lot to find an answer to this problem, I'm wondering if it is solvable. If it's not doing what you want, maybe you should consider purchasing something that does. You probably spent a couple of hundred bucks on it, but that is already wasted money if it's not being productive for you.

good luck

I'm entirely satisfied with the fine performance of this unit as a recorder. The only problem is that I can't use it to play files that I transfer to it from my computer.
