ear art's not a science
Hello: i have just started using sonar xl to record both midi and audio. when I create a new audio track it will also contain the audio of any audio tracks which I am monitoring. If I mute the other tracks then It records only the input. It is not a feed back through the mic, because I even tried it with the output volume off. The record meter still shows input signal from the other channel unless I mute them! I cant find any place where the output is looping or re-input either. I am using a sound blaster live platinum 5.1 with a live drive input. However I also have the same problem on my laptop which just has a basic audio card. I intend to monitor the previous channels to add the new ones with correct timing and overdubbing ability but this is not possible if the original tracks are included in the new ones. Any ideas on what I am missing here? Ive banged my head for about 3 hours on this hurdle alone! I also posted this question on the newbie forum which is where it belongs ,but I thought someone here may have battled the same culprit! Thanks in advance

PS of course input monitoring is OFF!

You must be recording from the "What U Hear" choice instead of from the Line In alone.

WOW!!! This is absolutely an A,mazing forum!!! Youre my hero of the day! I had gone and checked it before, because it came up in some documentation as the posible culprit, and found that it was not one of the items which was set to view in my volume control, not thinking that even though it was not listed to view, it could be enabled, an viola, I checked it to view it and it was enabled. I turned the blasted thing off and all is well in the recording biz for this newbie tonight. I hope that you realize that your reply has been a great benefit to me and hopefully someday I will be able to pass on equally beneficial information to some struggling Newbie. this is a 5 smile posting :) :) :) :) :)
Thank You Very Much
William

No pain no gain.

In the end all the struggles will pay off.

GOOD LUCK

Of all the poxy software that was ever created in the name of Microsoft, the Windows audio mixer has got to be the worst piece of code ever. I rekon once a week on this forum, a reply will include the words "uncheck What U hear". And it still trips me up after two years, but at least it appears in my list of "check this out" possible solutions.
