old MPC troubles

I have an MPC3000 (the original one from 1995). I'm having problems finding:
1] Memory: the manual speak of the EXM3008 8MB board and a pair of 1 or 4MB SIMM boards. what type of SIMM could I use instead.

2]the floppy drive has gone bad. I bought a new one from a computer store but it didn't work. Should I have changed the ribbon cable too?

I'm trying to find a SCSI ZIP for cheap, but I'll still need the floppy to transfer old files. or i could just buy a USB ZIP, copy files from floppy to a ZIP disk, then return it to the store and save to the SCSI Zip from there on.

I need a total upgrade is there an official site to order from?

i guess thats it for now, after i get the thing operational I'll come back for tips on the best way to use what i have

-that MPC should take regular 72pin simm, they are all over eBay cheap if you can't get it from a local computer store

-at a store your gonna be looking @ about $150 for the scsi zip drive, you may wanna check pricewatch.com, i bet you can probably get one for halp that price on the net

-the floppy may have some weird jumper setting or something on it...Akai and other people do stuff like that so you'll have to buy the fdd's from them for 10 times a much

-do a search on one of them MPC newsgroups i think i remember reading something before about them floppies

Word to the wise invest in a backup SCSI zip drive too, these things are temperamental at times. My 1st zip drive just flaked on me 2 days ago and I've only had it about 8 months. Of course my forward thinking ensured that I had a second zip drive waiting to step to the plate.
