Well I had some free time today. So I went out and started playin with some midi synth stuff and this was born. Has a "Dio" feel to it. After I started messing I said hell, its sort of like Holy Diver !! I should have just covered it. Oh well, at least I got to play a little today. Let me know how the mix sounds. Link below

Enjoy

I'm afraid to comment because I'm not sure what all is you and what all is midi... but everything sounded great, and the guitars were really great. If they were midi they were made to sound very real, and if they're real they were very well played.

I know the only real thing is the guitar. About the solo... some notes were out of the scale but in the end is an overall good improvisation.

About the mix...
The kick is to high for my taste... and it really sound like a MIDI sample. Turn down the volume of that channel and do some work on the MIDI to sound more "human" Synths in the intro are great. Well, that's all I can say... for now :D

Midi guitars ? !! ? Real guitar !! , Real Bass !!, Real Drums at the end !! Cymbals throughout the tune are real too. :) I only had maybe an hour of messing and real drums take me forever. So I just did a drum loop and added some real touches. I dont get to play much this time of year. So its just messin and all improve. Scale ? Whats a scale ? I just play. Sort of like Neil Young, I just wing my leads. Sounds like crap but who cares. Nothing fancy.

Do you know how boring a solo would be if every note was "in the scale"? ;)

Bush, ya got me head bangin! Very Iron Maiden-ish bass work/sound you got goin on there. Sounds damn good, even though I could only listen on phones because the family is sleeping.

Sounds pretty good but pretty repetitive. I'm not a big fan of synth stuff, but you got some good guitar wankery happeing there. :D

I know. The drums are boring. When I just jam, I plug in a drum loop and play to it. I hate click tracks. After recording I hear all sorts of things I can do to it. I will replace the drum loop with real drums, once I figure out the final changes. Thanks for the replies. I do have some "learn metal videos" that will teach me scales. :) Thanks again for the props. Tax season keeps me busy, so I wont be on here much. Have a nice 4 months fellow rockers. :D

Chromaticism is OK if you're planning to do it. I feel the solo has some intention and some notes are contradictory to that intention... And yes, you can put some weird touches here and there, but you must be sure you want those notes in there. My point is that some notes are out of the original intention of the solo....

... or maybe I'm reading too much theory.

HOLY DIVER!!! :D

It does have that same feel to it. Sounds pretty good.

First off - cool song, man. Lol, it is one tiny little step away from being Holy Diver, but....about 10,000 other great metal songs are, too.

The guitars sound like they were recorded through one of those little digital thingies run direct in, they lack the body and balls of a real amp, and the drums seriously need a better high hat sample - all the samples you're using just sound kinda cheap and old-school - like the soundfonts that came on soundblasters years ago. Since you're into midi drums, I would highly recommend checking out addictive drums - it works as a VSTi. You just route your midi data into it and it sounds amazing...actually some of the tracks on my myspace page were done with Addictive Drums. Lol, and contrary to one of the posts above mine, I could use more kick, (bit of a metal head, here....so my taste may be more in line with yours).

Enjoy your taxes.....:(:(:(

Ive got the drums covered. Have a full set to beat on. And I mean beat on (I stink). One day I hope to be as good as GregL on them. He's my hero !!! The Bass guitar was Di'd and the Guitar was actually through my Peavey JSX Head/XXX cab. I used three mics to record it. Two on the cab and one in the room. The mids were turned way down to get that old 80's metal vibe. It was the sound I was after. When time allows Im gonna fix it further and I may re-record the guitars with alot more mids (that Dimebag crunch) and see how it relates. Its always easier to lower eq's then to add them to a recorded track. Thanks for the listen. I told my wife I was taking one afternoon off, on Sundays, of tax work, to play and record. I usually spend 12-16 hours a day, 7 days a week working on returns this time of year. So I hope to expand this tune further. Or I may do something else. Who knows. Ive been meaning to do a Sabbath cover and AC/DC cover. With AC/DC the guitar amp mids will be there. Oh well gotta go back to work

Sounding pretty cool....the hat is a bit loud in this mix. Some cool riffage though....worthy of working on when you get more time.

Thanks. My son and his friends always get on me for playing what they say is "not heavey enough". Well they listened to it and said "thats what heavy means".

Got rid of the drum loop and replaced with my sorry butt playing them. There is a couple of spots where Im off. I try. Anyway, let me know how the bass drum is. I used a different eq and compressor than I usually do. The snare and toms also a different one then usual. I sort of like the way it sounds, but other opinions help. My ears are tired, so I might be way off. Thanks

Sorry - another one I can't load - my ADSL but really be poo or the ISP or both!
