A few years ago, I aquired an ampex machine, 2-track I think, reel to reel, and I've tried to record with new tape. The motors seem to be alright, and the tape feeds through the head area fine, but the sound is muddy, at best, and spotty. The guy I bought it from said the bias needs to be adjusted...?? Is there anyone out there who can tell me sumpthin about this machine?
Should I just dump it, or??? is it worth it to put any time or $$$ in it???
I don't have very much in it now so am hesitant to put any more untill I have some idea if it is gonna be worth it ???? :)

model # ??

I'm not sure about the model num.,
I'll have to wait till I get back from a trip to Giants Stadium.... to dig it out o!! It has been buried down there for about 10 years, and just haven't thought about it, till I joined this BBS.... Then with 'Recording ' on my mind, I remembered that I had a recorder that needs some work.... I'll let you k, and we'll go from there.....
Thanks for responding to the question.
