Hi-anybody familiar with the Oktava MK219 condenser mic? According to Guitar Center its Russian made and only $99. Its on sale from a list price of $599. This seems really incredible to me. If anybody knows about the quality of the Oktava MK219 i'd appreciate your input. I'm in need of a good condenser vocal mic and this is a great deal. The mic has a large gold sputtered diaphragm-not sure what this is-
Theres tons of info on this site, but the search is possibly a bit mangled at the moment...
However, the deal is this: The MK-219 is supposed to be a good mic. I have a MK-319 which is the same capsule in another casing, and it's good. However, the quality control is bad, so make sure you listen and test the mic your going to buy. And no, it hasn't cost $599 this century.
I'm very inexperienced with mics-i do have an SM-58 and am familiar with its sound, but i'm not sure exactly how to judge the MK-219. Coupled now with the understanding that Oktava has poor quality control makes the purchase a bit harder to make. I wouldn't want to waste 100 bucks when i could put it towards a more recognizable label. If you were to compare the difference between the SM-58 and the Oktava MK-219 would you say that they are light years apart in terms of quality and sound? I realize that the 58 is dynamic and so there is obvious difference, but i'm only interested in a vocal mic. (a dedicated vocal mic). I'm willing to spend about 225$ on a condeser-any suggestions? I went to my local music store the other day and the man there had some Audio Technica condensers with large diaphrams. Could you recommend something in the AT line. The store owner was selling one for about $300 with a large diaphram-kinda rectangular looking. Unfortunately, i didn't jot down the model number. Still, the MK-219 really grabs my imagination. It being made in Russia certainly seems exotic and interesting. By the way, i did a search on the Oktava-WOW.....................
I am considering the same mic, the Octava MK-219. I have also heard their quality control is poor and that is easy to believe since it comes out of Russia, however, I own 2 Octava MC-012 small condensor mics and they are excellent! I have an AT-4033($350) and 2 AKG C-1000 mics and the Octava's blow them all away for acoustic guitar. I am looking for a couple more large diaphram condensors for choir vocals, so please let me know anything else you find out about the 219.
