Did you get them from the soundroom? What capsules did you order? This mic is probably the latest "mic I've gotta find enough money to buy" (which changes monthly, if not more frequently). Eager to hear your impressions!

actually i just order the pair from musicians friend. i didnt get any extra capsules yet. i beleive they are standard with a cardiod capsule.

hmm

I've heard the non-sound room ones are potentially shady, inconsistent. I bought a pair with all 3 capsules from Ebay for like $370 or something, and while they do show very slight wear on the outside, they both sound 'matched' enough to my ears and record really well...so your mileage may vary...heck, if they sound shitty, return them for another pair, and keep playing the game with musician's friend until you get a nice set.

I did alright with my pair from MF...getting great Ac. git sound. Great deal for the money...these were pretty well matched too. But I've heard it could go the other way too, so don't be afraid to raise some hell with those guys if you're not happy. ;)

When I bought mine at GC, I made them bring out a box full of 012's. Don't be scared, it's not like some were garbage and some were good. There was only one in the lot that was noticably less sensitive, and a couple that were just that tad bit hotter. Odds are your's will be just fine.

you guys are scaring me!! :(
I tried a couple from G.C. on acoustic guitar. They sounded exactly identical to me, but had too much low-end for my dreadnought sized guitar. Made it downright muddy. They might be fine for smaller body guitars, drums, and other things though. I returned them with no problem since they are considered “instrument” mics instead of “vocal” mics. So don’t be “scared”, just return them if they don’t work for you. I ended up getting a Studio Projects B3 which works perfect for me.

If you record too far into the nearfield, the proximity effect is pretty noticeable on the mc012s. Might want to try mic'ing from at least 18" away.

I was going to say before seeing Chad's post that placement of these mics is extremely important. DO NOT sit them right in front of your soundhole...the wind alone will piss them off. I usually use one, like Chad said, about 18-22" in front of the sound hole, and a little bit below level. The other usually goes about 14" in front of the 5th fret aimed at the 12th. This usually gives me a nice balance of freq's that requires very little mixing EQ.

I have tried the omni capsule on my dreadnought, and got the same effect as Flatpicker, even without proximity effect. Not only have I found I want to back them off about 24", I've found it helps to put a pop filter in front of them, as my Taylor moves enough air to pop them. They also work very well over the shoulder, where the boom doesn't blow straight at them.-Richie

This Sluice guy is a screwball... he doesnt know anything about the guitar :D hehe and whats this participant guy talking about? ;)

90% of worrying never materializes.... so worrying is wasteful :)

just have fun with those little sweet mics!

hes my xy setup.. which I think sounds best.. and I tried some... 298,987,873 different combinations!

The more you distance and filter the mics the less intimate the guitar sound/tone is.

I record 10"-13" from them

I guess that could be good in a rythm situation.. or overdubbing

finally here!!!!!!!!!! have not actually recorded with them, but i have a session tonight. only problem is, one of my mics was missing the 10db pad adapter. are these supposed to come with them? i call musicians friend and told them. they are supposed to call me back. they wanted me to send both mics back and they will send me a new pair. i said "no way" as i have already waited 6 weeks for them. anyway, do you guys use the pad alot?
