hey...i jus tried recording a vocal track with the oktava mk 012-01's....it sounds nice and clear (my first condensor). i' was using a pop filter with it...but i'm still getting some pops. its not that bad...but how can i stop it? or is it just because i shouldnt be using it for vocals? or should i move the pop filter and my self further away from the mic? but then i'm guessing my vocals wont have as much presence in them...or would they? all suggestions are welcome. thanks!

You might say that.

I'd give it one last shot, though, if you really like the sound of it otherwise. Try doing the thing where you tape a pencil so it runs vertically right in the center of the pop filter. If that doesn't work, try changing the position, or just try some creative workarounds come mixdown time.

thanks...it sound so damn good to me bc its my first condensor i guess...now with that pencil thing...will it basically direct the pops away from the mic?

I would adjust the mic position so that it is a little lower or higher than dead center to your mouth and then angle it so it is still pointing at your mouth. If you do a little test with your hand you can feel that the plosives occur in a very narrow column right out from your mouth. Get the microphone out of that column but still pointing at you.

For example at my church they have set the gain on the microphones based on this one priest that is old and very soft spoken. For everybody else it sounds like an artillery barrage of plosives and with my booming voice it could easily sound like nuclear war. So I adjusted the mic so it is at chin level and pointing upwards. it worked very well in reducing the plosives.

The MC012 is prone to popping. Try (2) pop filters about 4" apart. And it's really not a bad vocal mic for some voices.-Richie
