Saw this on rec.audio.pro:

"For anyone that's interested, I put up the curves for all the capsules to a matched set of Oktava MC012s that I purchased from the Sound Room. The mics come with individual curves for each capsule. Mic#1 is at:

and Mic#2 is at:

Decide for yourself.

Despite the fact that one of the sets of diagrams was the wrong way around with respect to the other (made a comparsion a little more visually challenging) they sure do look pretty similar don't they!!

One thing I'm curious about though... they were Russian made charts... I thought The Sound Room did their own testing and matching... or does The Sound Room simply receive a bunch of MC012s and match a pair together by looking at these charts to see what ones closesly match? If this is the case then why can't some dude do that back in Russia - hell it's not that hard!!!

Go to The Sound Room website (www.oktava.com), click on "RTT Microphones", then click on "Factory Matched Stereo Pairs", and read those top two paragraphs in bold type words.

And if you want a lot more information and in a lot more detail, I'm sure Taylor Johnson can answer all your questions.

Harvey Gerst's tracings look a little better than mine do...mine all have a more profound roll-off below 100 Hz--which I usually cut anyway to minimize muddiness. Since that is uniform with all of the capsules, I figured it had to do with the preamps, not the capsules themselves.

These tracings also don't tell the whole story--the sound is great, particularly given how many options you get for the money. I am still waiting for the M1/M3 LOMO head to see how that sounds.

I went there Rec. Eng. ...it sure does make an almost flawless case of why these mics are so good.
