I've been looking at both

Nuendo $799
Samplitude $624

I know Samplitude lacks rewire and is not great on the midi side (but ver.8 should be out soon), but have heard the audio engine is right up their.

Don't know that much about either, So what are the advatages of each.

magix music studio - 70 bucks.
give it a demo and be surprised. also includes midi studio with unlimted midi tracks. do yourself a favor and check it out. its based on samplitude.
when i installed it even a directory said samplitude.
itll do 64 audio tracks. read the write up at harmonycentral.com.
ive also tried its big brother samplitude. saw no reason to buy big brother.
it seems for some weird reason one gets more features particularly midi
in the 70 bucker. think i'm wrong...just try it.....proof of the pudding etc.....
and when you agree - as ive saved you a few hundred bucks.
i need a new soundcard - just jokin'....!

Where do they sell Nuendo for $800?
Amen! I paid around $1100 and that was a pretty good deal (out the door).

Samplitude all the way. If you really need MIDI there are plenty of low-cost editors and then you can import the MIDI files. Nothing can replace the way Samp allows you to flow when you work, not to mention it sounds better (yeah, I know some people won't believe that, but ask any Samp user and they'll tell you; not to mention just do listen to the demos side by side).

Samplitude is where it's at for multitracking audio.

I'm lucky enough to get the Academic price:)

I'm kind of leaning towards Samplitude,
Here are some of the things I like about it:

POW-r dithering
Drect CD burning, with realtime efffects plug-ins and crossfades
Room Simulator, using Impulse respones (it comes with 450MB worth)
Video Deluxe, Video-recording,editing,and authoring

It seams, from what I've read, that it has the upper hand at Mastering (something I want to get into, along with sound for video), and jut plain sound quality, And even though it's not as popular as Nuendo, it won the EM editors choice for Audio-Editing

Massive Master, seeing as you have Nuendo,
1) What are some of it's outstanding qualities?
2) What are some of the things you could see improvment on?

Thanks!

I have Samplitude 6.0 and Will be upgrading by the end of the year. Even 6.0 is a dream for multitracking. I found a great deal on 6.0 and quite a few mastering engineers were giving it kudo's. I haven't used Nuendo but Im sure its a great product. I can't see paying more for something I won't use so it comes down to what software offers you the most band for your buck on the functions you use. I don't do alot of midi but midi is always iffy regardless of what software. Download the samp demo and play with it and see if you like the way it works, then see if Nuendo is better. Samplitude is kinda of the underdog. Its methodology of VIP's took a 30% drop off the cpu when compared to CEP2 and N-Track.

SoMm

I started using Nuendo strictly because of how it handled being beaten to death. Really. It just summed better than the rest (IMO) when it was being ridden hard.

One of the things I actually like about Samplitude (considering getting it, actually) is the project-to-RedBook disc abilities... I go through several steps once I get the sound I'm looking for. Any of which could be screwed up, and they're all quite time-consuming. Going straight to disc from the project seems like a cool thing...

Improving Nuendo? There's nothing that *I* do with it that needs improvment that I can think of... Sanpshot would be nice, and certainly direct-to-disc would be an amazing thing. There are a lot of people who think it's a bit "buggy" but there are people who find bugs in everything. I'm sure Samplitude has its share also, as does Cubase, ProTools, etc.
