Recording Idiot
Here's my equipment I'm using:

- Behringer MX2442A Eurodesk Mixer
- C-Port system (w/the sound card)
- Sonar 2 Software
- Mics, cords, all that good stuff, not really important for this problem.

I know with my C-Port I can record up to 8 tracks at the same time. I'm wanting to run everything threw my mixer then to the C-Port then to Sonar. The only problem I'm having is figuring out where (and how many) my direct outs are and how to assign a certain track to one of those outs. So I can record drum tracks and have a track for the kick, snare, hi hats, etc. Can anyone help?
 
I'm not really familiar with the behringer mixers :), tough i think this model has a direct output per channel. If not you can use the inserts <-- (You have to plug a monojack halfway in the plug (so u can see a cm from the sleeve) to get the signal without interrupting it to the main mix or aux busses.)
You can also use the bus outputs for example if you want your hatts,oh's,3toms mixed on one stereo channel and your kick and snare on 2 insert/directout channels. Which leaves you 4 more channels for vocals, guitars, bass, ... you can send your pc's output to a stereo channel without assigning it to an output so you can use your mixer's aux for monitoring.

You can always route your channels easily with patchbays offcourse, but i think i'm getting off topic too much ... :D

btw the outputs/inserts are probably on the back or on top right above the channel strips gain.

Not familiar with that mixer but you can also use your Mains out, panning the first track hard left, the second track hard right to get track separation. You can do the same with your aux bus(es) to get 2 more mono tracks per bus.
