PREAMPS!!

Ok, my budget is about £150 or $220 ish. Not going to get me a Neve I know, but there must be a defintive answer for this? I see alot of preamp threads, but there doesnt seem to be a conclusive 'best model for XXX price range'. Im not in a position to go and try aload out, so i will buying 'for the kill' after searching and researching (starting here!)

Im after discrete quietness mainly but some EQ/compression/warmth controls would be a bonus (i AM aware my budget is going to limit me though) XLR input to go into a 8 track SIAB and something that will fit nicely in my rack :P !

Umm Focusrite Trakmaster/Penta anyone?? Any others?

For info - my mic is a Studio Electronics SE2200A...

Cheers

i've always been happy with all the "cheaper" Joemeek producs,
they have little compressors, preamps, eq's,
second hand u can get some of their stuff for less than $200,
and i'm talking about decent quality here...at least for that mic of yours :)

do a search on ebay "joemeek" "joe meek" and see what kind of stuff it brings up....sometimes u don't find much, other weeks u find shedloads of equipment....

i got the Joemeek vc8 now, pretty much the same as the vc6 i think,

compressor, eq, phantom power, mic, instrument and line in^put,
insert so u can connect reverb or whatever to it....

sounds clean, nice, fat, i'm happy with it,
but it will get replaced this year by a much bigger Meek machine

my 2 cents

M-Audio Tampa costs 200 quid. Some people recommend it. The Dmp-3 of course. And the new Joe Meek 3Q (I have a old VC3, got it for 67.00 pounds, but I think I am starting to dislike it. maybe :) )
