OK, i have talked to many many people about gear...looked over stuff...and was able to set a budget on gear for the YMCA. No, not pick gear, just a budget of what we could spend.

Now, it looks as if the construction for this thing will be donated (or dirt cheap as a gift) and my last bit of "budgeting" is acoustic treatment.

I know very well of auralex, but don't know of many others who provide the service...Any suggestions here? and to get an estimate of how much the acoustic treatment would cost, We would need to have an analysis done...is that correct? i ask because I would like to get a very rough estimate without calling in the consultant just yet. That will come a bit later.

In reality, all the Y cares is an estimate of how much approximately it will cost to have this done. So for anyone who thinks "this guy is a clueless idiot", i am just a researcher on this project. I'm not going to be installing this or consulting this!

Now, to those who know...would a rough, tenative $10,000 budget be enough to do basic acoustic treatment on a 15 by 13 (rounded figures since the walls will be different lengths) recording room, and a 8 by 10 control room?

thanks for the help so far. I'm learning, and passing on good knowledge to others as well!

I should think that is plenty of money, esp. if you're talking about being adequate to show kids the fundamentals of recording. I still can't get over your project. It's pretty cool.

I would think you could spend less and then invest money in equipment sniffing dogs to make sure equipment didn't dissappear in the first week.

Maybe that's a jaundiced view, but I could see kids trashing and looting this place if less than scrupulously supervised.

Flick, I've got to ask

Where in the USA is this project taking place? I went to the local YMCA a couple of weeks ago to sign my kid up for soccer and the guys working there had a couple of keyboards, a mic set up and I was sittin' there thinkin' "Holy mackerel! What goes on here?!?" Now two weeks later a construction company has come in and started construction on a new building for the Y. You aren't in Memphis are you?
