Man, please, give us some extra info, don't be so lazy to let us do all the work!

What's your soundcrad? Do you have a amp modeler, or do you use a normal amp, do you have mices...? gives us info!

...

I have sound blaster (creative) audigy with the mic plugins on the front. I have a small amp that I use to practice on. I can plug the guitar in the jack that is on the face of the computer. I don't have an amp modeler. Do I have to go through the amp to play on the computer?

Forgive my ignorance, I am new.

Let me know what you need to know and I will be more than happy to supply any information that I can.

One of the beauties of actually buying the software is that you get a manual.

His question doesn't have anything to do with the software to where he needs the manual basically his question is dealing with can his sound card support and sound good with what he is trying to do. At least that what it seems like he is asking in my opinion.

now how do I record my guitar?
BAHAHAHAHAHahahaha...

Whew...that was funny. Okay. My guess is, you need about one thing...an adapter to go from the 1/4 in. guitar cord (the one that you plug into your guitar, and then [usually] to your amp) down to the 1/8 in. mic input on yer 'puter.

It should look like the picture below, and it's under $4 at Radioshack. Now, to open the picture below, you'll have to learn how to use your mouse...on your computer. You've already apparently mastered the computer, because you posed a very articulate question on a BBS.

Keep in mind, you'll need this adapter, whether you decide to use your amp (which you should) or not. If you use your amp, you'll have to buy one more guitar cord, to come OUT of the output of your amp and into the 1/8" mic input of yer 'puter...which you should be able to do, because you've already gone to radioshack to get this:

I hope you make millions my man,
:D

Why you gotta hate Chris?

There's no need to hate on other people Chris. This is a Forum for learning. This guy came to learn. He's apparently new to recording I would assume and it also seems he's a bit new to gear.

Now, to help you correctly Fusion, The adaptor he mentioned isn't necessary. Your Audigy drive (as you noted) does have a 1/4" input on the front. this is a mono input with a built in Preamp. Any documentation that you need to produce an audio signal would be supplied with your card. But This wouldn't be a discussion forum If I didn't help ya. heh'... Ok, Of course you plug your guitar cable directly into that (unless you want to hook a mic up to it and mic your amplifier) but I think for learning purposes it'd be best just to plug directly in.

Ok. now that your connected. you need to open your Audigy "surround mixer". make sure that the "line in2/Mic2" is selected in the far right collumn. it's a collumn that's separated from the rest. This is your "record ready" device. That means that teh Audigy software will make this particular input your default input. Cool Edit will see that your "line2/Mic2" input is default and it will listen to that input for sound.
Also, you will need to make sure the mic input is unmuted and that its turned up if you want to hear it out of your speakers when you play.

See the attached picture for reference when setting up your "Surround Mixer"

Remember, the mic/s input does not have to be unmuted to record but it does if you want to hear what your recording thru your speakers. Also remember that the way to turn up your guitars input volume (or down) is the far right volume slider (REC level)

Now, In CEP right click on the level meter on the bottom and select "Monitor Record Level". this is a way to see if your guitar is comming thru to CEP. (You could alternately just try to record something and if it shows up then your set :-) )

I think I pretty much covered it.... If you have more ?'s abt how to do this then Don't hesitate to repost here on this, (your) thread. Also, Don't mind people like Chris. They sometimes forget that everyone has to start somewhere.. besides.. I bet your guitar playing it better than his anyway.. sry had to say something back to a hater.

Good Luck and rememebr to post back with the results.

I have no idea why you thought I was "hating on" anybody. What I posted is exactly what I needed to know but couldn't seem to get any help with for the first 2 months that I started recording.

The only reason I laughed is because the post reminded me of me, that's all.

Very nice of you to expand on the post, btw.

I don't hate anybody :D

it's cool

No worries mate..

I was just a lil agitated at ppl that post neg comments at the time.. I had read alot from the chess's (kinda could put neone in a mood)..
I'm glad that you found my post informative.. He did say he had the audigy with the front plate that u plug in to.. So he does have 1/4 inch input (mono) if his info was correctly worded.. Just wanted to make sure u knew that the Creative cards wth the "audigy/Live Drive" and the external version of the Audigy do have that feature.

Peace and Happy recording!
