I go to the mix. I pick a track, I don't mess to much with the time
or beat or metranome. I name the track and click input so the
riptide shows in the tab. I do the same for track 2. I have my
mic plugged into the mic in and the quitar into the line in.
I set the slides on each track to about 7db because I don't know
where to put them really. I set the master to the same. I set the
pan and aux to the center. I try the song and look at he meter. I try to get it just to but not into the red. I play it back. if it sound
good I go to the effects at the top of the track. I click reverb and eq on track 1, and eq and reverb or chorus on track 2. I listen to
that. If I like it I go to edit.
I listen and if I like it I go to apply effects, and then I listen. I then
go to mix down to track and after that when I listen it is playing
back and the meters are in the red. Does that tell you anything
Sorry I am so new to this, but I really want to record and burn to
cd. I thought I would learn on this abit and then go on to Sonar when I have gotten alittle familiar. I realize this is alittle more
complicated than I know, but I can do it if I try.
I am a great singer and have played for years. I want to get it
on cd myself. Thanks for helping if you can.

Often times when effects are added it will increase the level of the track. Your recording technique is good but just lower the track level after effects if it is clipping on the track itself or use the master fader. Mix the tracks down to one stereo track and dither to 16bit if you want to write to CD.

Just keep playing with the level like Stealth says until it doesn't clip. Usually you leave the master fader up and adjust the individual channel volumes.

FYI- You can hit the REPLY button so your questions stay in the same thread instead of starting a new one with every question.

Thanks you two

Okay I get it. Keep master up and play with the channel track
sliders until I get it right. I don't know what dither to 16bit means
tho. Is that something I do in edit, mix or is that something I will
do when I get to Cd. I have adaptec cd creator, and I have not
used it yet. I am so excited lol.
My girlfriend is a big time producer in LA. Does alot of pilot stuff and free lances for people like Opra. She is one of my dearest friends, but I can't bring myself to bother her with this. I am sure she would be laughing at me right now, and I see you Tex have done alot of tv and film, so I am so grateful for your patience. Actually she would help me if I asked, but this forum is going to be
great for me. I get quick responses Thanks again. Magic

If you are recording in 24bit (which is recomended for best quality) then you have to convert your files to 16bit before they can be burned to CD. You would do this in your audio recording software and it is the absolute last step when you are all finished with your mix and mastering.

Hey magic!

How's leavenworth! Several people I know live there, including my significant other!

Ever shop at "Sage Mountain?" If you do, tell the lady who works there (the one with dreadlocks) that I said "Hi!" :)

Welcome to the board.
