Well I made a thread sometime about two years ago saying I was going to build a studio in my pole barn.... But due to the need of a septic tank and plumbing and an upgrade in the powerlines we sold out of the place and moved to the city
These days I have been tracking in a bathroom and mixing my two track acoustic guitar and vocal recordings in a walk in closet at low volumes
Anyway I bought a house, and am going to move out of my parents place and into a "real" studio? Well here we go.
The house is small and under 900sqf but the garage is huge! it is two stories with a master bedroom upstairs. the old ceiling was only 7' tall and the room sucked! but the drywall had to come down off it anyway (due to some damage and smell) so we took it out and all the old thin insulation. NICE! open rafters rather than trusses, and we can go from a 7 foot ceiling to a 10 foot one easy!
The walls will be at angles due to the shape of the roof and then a small flat spot up 10 feet for the ceiling. I am having a hard time describing all this right now due to lack of pictures or drawings
but the plan is to put a 10' ceiling in there and then a hard floor (more about that later) and then treat the walls and maybe ceiling with fiberglass, and bass traps in the corners of the room.
Does any of this make sense without pictures?
Anyway I am going to have as I recall off the top of my head an 18 by 24 room with 10 foot ceiling! more space than I have ever had to work with before and in the end the walls are going to be filled with insulation and end up being in places 16" thick.
I am hoping to put the downstairs (garage) into use as a tracking room for piano and maybe jazz drums later on down the line. So my guess is that R30 insulation in the floor and then drywall that ceiling down there will be enough for now. I will I hope finish all that down there in a couple years. I want my main room up to snuff first though.
Will try for pictures in a few days
