What type of situation are you in where electronic drums are the only option. DTXpress would be my last resort.

I know this thread is uber-old but reading it pisses me off tbfh. DTXplorers are a very good option if a. you want to trigger sounds on your PC - ie. for recording b. you live in an apartment where acoustic drums are not an option c. don't have tons of money to blow on them d. it's your first venture into drumming (won't annoy the neighbors with your messy playing)

Whoever this dude is sure let himself get discouraged easily when he seemed to have a clear and well thought out reason for going for this kit. If you want an electronic kit then go for it and don't rely on the opinions of acoustic elitists to make your decisions for you.

i've used the DTXpress, not the Xplorer, and it has a good, wide range of sounds.also check out Alesis/Ion- there is a VERY cheap Ion about which has a clone of an SR-16 as the module.
