Hypothetical Situation here: (and this post might get lenthy with the answers, but all input and experiences would be appreciated, especially from those who have "been there, done that".) :)

So you record a CD of your original music, and you and others think it sounds great when its mixed down, and all finished in your home studio.

Now what do you do next?????

How, or who can you send it to for mass duplication? (any recommendations)

How many do you get made the first round?

Do you have to get the final "mixdown" done by a Professional Company?

How do you get it played on the Radio Stations (both local and nationally)?

How do you get it promoted,,,, and out there to the public?

Do you hire a management company at a percentage to promote it for you?

Do you have to "tour" it with a band on a circuit to promote it?

Who does the artwork, and makes up the CD's & cases etc?

and most importantly, if you have the skills, can you do any of this stuff above all by yourself, or is hoping for that wishing for too much??

Lots of questions, but on this board we discuss the recording process, I was wondering whats next after we get that stage accomplished? (or at least think we do) lol :D

Thanks guys, and if you can or only want to reply to 1 or 2 of the above questions, thats cool too. All input will certainly help. ;)

Thanks and Peace

Can you? potentially yes. Should you? maybe...it can be a lot of work.

"

http://www.discmakers.com/music/ I used these guys and thought they did a good job.

"How many do you get made the first round?"

We did 1000 but would do 500 if we were to do it again.

"Do you have to get the final "mixdown" done by a Professional Company?"

We didn't. We just sent our cd of 2 trk mixdowns with light compression. But should've had it professionally mastered first... :o

"How do you get it played on the Radio Stations (both local and nationally)?"

Lemme know if you figure this out... :D We sent off finished CDs to a bunch of radio stations that played our genre. Brought one to our local radio station and put a dozen in our local music store on consignment.

"How do you get it promoted,,,, and out there to the public?"

We started with friends and family and built a website. Other than that, ??? (still workin on it.)

" Do you hire a management company at a percentage to promote it for you?"

We didn't. Maybe we should have. If you do a consignment in a music store, don't be surprised if they want 25 to 33 percent.

"Do you have to "tour" it with a band on a circuit to promote it?"

I dunno. I was the only one that played any instruments at the time.

"Who does the artwork, and makes up the CD's & cases etc?"

If you're good on a computer, you can do the artwork yourself. Pics, designs, whatever and send it to your duplicating house. They'll take it from there on cases, how many pages on the insert you want, if you're printing the lyrics etc...

This is just my opinion from my experience. Take what you can use, and leave the rest. :D

Hope it helps man......

So far this information and your responses, it is exactly what I have been hoping for. Thanks for all the advice so far !! ;)

If any of you others out there have any additional input, that would be greatly appreciated as well. This post is going to probably determine the road I take by way of your recommendations.

This will be my first full "serious" CD that I recorded solo. I just want to know the options and make sure I do it right.

Thanks again and Peace
