HELLO,

First off, i want to thank everyone who replies to these questions because it is EXTREMELY helpful to the new guys like me! THANKS.
Now, I have been writing lyrics and performing for about 10 years now and FINALLY decided to produce my own instrumentals for my songs. I just bought a Radio Shack MD-1700 (76 key) keyboard with MIDI hook ups and cables and all that. I want to learn how to download to my computer, however, i need software first. Now, which should i try to get..... CAKEWALK or CUBASE???? Please talk to me in the simplest of terms (red button, green button, etc.) Also, tell me why they are better then the other one. THANKS!!

THANKS,
LYNX

It's a tough question. Here you are more likely to get pro-Cubase responses, and in the Cakewalk thread your more likely to hear how great it is. The truth is that they are both good programs. Cubase is a bit deeper in my opinion which is why I use it, but you may not need deep.

Your best bet is to download free demo's from both companies and play with them for a bit and you can decide which one you like better. It's a bit of an uphill battle getting used to PC recording, but once you put your time and homework in, it is WELL worth it.

i love cubase for it's interface and depth... the interface specifically..

To be honest, if I were you I would try some of the free/cheap programmes first and see what your needs are. There's no point in buying a high-end audio/sequencer package if you are a basic, one-man and guitar/piano sort of fellow.

try Cool Edit, N-Track etc first and see which you like, then when you're ready to move on you will be more informed as to which to buy.
