i recently picked up an akai 4000ds MKII from the thrift store and ive been making it a priority hobby of mine since ive always wanted an analog machine to mix down to. I discussed a few problems with my audio teachers at school and one suggested oiling the machine and changing the belts. since this machine has no belts my only option is oiling it. where exactly would i put the oil? any suggestions?

I've cleaned the whole machine including the heads and pinch roller with their respective cleaners, demagnetized the heads (the recordings sound great, no more muddy unclear recordings), but at times i experience a little wow and flutter. also the rewind and fast forward functions are unpredictable and travel very slow or very fast. what could be the problem for this beside the actual motors being broken. could the fuse be a problem? does the machine need oiling?

also, how do i align the heads on this machine? i am aware that there are specific tapes for this purpose, but i have also heard that the tapes are only for certain machines ect. I want to get this machine in tip top shape and any help and suggestions are appriciated.

thanks a lot,
daniel browne
