Just got an otari mx5050 8 track, 1/2" unit for 100 bucks plus free UNOPENED tape. It all seems to work great. 100 bucks! I just saved like 800 bucks! Except the pinch roller is messed up, that's easily fixed though. Any place I can download the manual? Thanks!

Until you get a new pinch roller you can put a layer of masking tape over the sticky one and then run some tape throught the machine for testing. Might as well use old tape just in case. This way you can play with it until the parts come in.

Don't know where to get a manual but a little googling might pop something up. Some schools have them online for classes.

Have you hooked it up to a mixer yet?
If it didn't come with a snake you should know that the balanced XLR ins and outs are the old style cable polarity - so you'll have to reverse the ring and tip wires on the end of the cabels that are connected to the recorder if you have standard cables, or you can have a custom snake made.
I have the manual if you have questions.
But it's pretty straight forward except for the maintenance part.

Let the machine warm up for 20 minutes before operating.
Lay your initial tracks using the ALL INPUT mode
Lay your overdubbs using the SEL REPO mode
Mix down to stereo using the ALL REPO mode
