Possibly slightly overlong, that's not to say that it dragged, but i'd say it could have been cut a bit without losing too much. Didn't especially like the vocal sound but that could be to do with the download quality. I thought the song was cool, you've definitely captured the dream sequence thing in the vocal part, organ and solo at the end. I especially liked the vocals around 3mins, where they seem to be intermingling, very cool. Nice. :)

Thanks Jags, I appreciate the comments. Actually the vocal sound was a deliberate effect. You notice the 2 side voices sound normal BUT..it didn't come across as well in the Mp3 as I had hoped. The intention was to have a "megaphone" quality to it but like I said, it didn't come across that way. Also I noticed occasional distortions on some peaks so I guess I'll have to work on that. Also when all the voices are going together they kinda mush up. I just got a BBE so next week I'll try that to see if it brings the individual voices out better. Thanks again, I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it. :)

Good playing Lt.,
What instruments are you playing. I like the singing, but possible with a little less effects. Good job recording also, IMO.

the strong part is the music...pretty nice.
the vocal sound is fairly bad, and I don't think it worked too well.
kinda hissy/noisy recording too.
I could deal with about 3 minutes of the beat, and then I got tired of it, and didn't feel like listening to the last 5 minutes. ..I skipped ahead, and it was kinda sounding the same to me too.

Nice chord changes, like I said...but 8 mins of it starts to push it.

Thanks dtb, I'm playing a 12-string acoustic and a strat thru a pod. The drums and bass are a Roland XP-60. I think I'm gonna have to rethink the vocal sound. It didn't come across like I thought so I'll have to use a more normal sound for it with definately less effects.
Thanks to you also mixmkr, I agree the vocal doesn't sound like I want it to. But I really do want some kind of "artificial sound" to that one voice. I'm just at a loss as to how to get it. Any ideas would be embraced. :) I need to shorten it too I suppose. It is five and a half minutes long.
Keep 'em coming, I can take it. I'm just so excited to finally be doing this and to get the chance to incorporate other people's advice in my music is the best thing I could ever have happen.

i was looking for a nice way to tell ya it sucks and then realized i hit lo-fi :D

dude, good stuff.....i didnt really get into the vocal but i think it somewhat fit what you are going after.....hope to hear some more soon......

I really liked that vocal thing (duelling tenors?) that started ~2:37.
And that "flump-flump" sound that had my Event's dancing at 4:21/4:24/4:27 etc. Yeah!
And overall the guitars sounded tight.

I, too wasn't a big fan of the megaphone effect, simply because there was no background to display this sound against.

And, at the end of the day, I'd say the bass+ drums track needs some work. It's for the most part nice and thumpy, but has a somewhat "nasal" note to the snare and hi-hat. And for that kind of length it needs either some (labor intensive) variation and/or some "production style" edits.

Here and there the string sliding noise rose above the program content in an unpleasant way. Maybe back off the mic on that 12-string or tighten up the performance.

Death to the Megaphone

Clearly the midrangie vocal sound must go although drstawl made a good point about why it doesn't work. It would really need a different sonic background to have the right effect. I still have to transfer my ADAT tapes to my Fostex but when I do I'm gonna see this thing in a whole different light. Maybe I should just rerecord the whole thing altogether. I have so many new thoughts about this tune now that other people have weighed in on it. It's kinda like a group mind. wow, what an interesting process. :D
