off time on multitrack recording using CEP

I'm surprised this issue hasn't been addressed on this forum.

I'm noticing that as I record more than 3 or 4 tracks, the timing of the newly recorded track gets off time by a fraction of a second - that is; I'm playing in time, but CEP records slightly off. This is solved by having to edit out (cut) the fraction of a second difference between the downbeat (from drums) and the note played on the instrument being recorded.

I hope I've conveyed the problem clearly. Does anyone have a similar problem, or know the solution? Not enough processing power maybe? Certain settings on CEP?

I look forward to some help on this.

Thanks.

It's called latency and I am sure you can find all kinds of info on this board about it.

Thanks. There are indeed quite a few posts on latency. The source of the problem is clear.

hes just being bitch becaue this isnt a CEP question, technically. CEP records what it hears, when it hears it... just like any prog. This is a soundcard problem.

What happens is your soundcard takes a bit of time to conver the sound.. coming and goin.. and thus introduces the latency. If you have a quality soundcard.. this becomes less of an issue. I have no problems with latency with my setup and CEP.

You must either:

a) have a shitty soundcard
b) have shitty drivers OR
c) have your shit set up shitty. ;)

Any of these questions can be adressed here... but you'll probly get better info over in COMPUTER RECORDING AND SOUNDCARDS. thats where the real geeks are.

Now.. you're probly gonna come back and say " im using a MOTU Whatever and it works fine in N-Tracks!!" If this is the case... mess with your BUFFER SETTINGS. you can get it good there.

xoxo
