A friend of mine gave me one of these MK219s (from the GC specials) about six weeks ago & mine does not sound particularly bad. Maybe I was lucky & he wasn't with his other MK219? From what is said here you gotta go and check them out one by one to make sure you don't get a lemon. I've was told that the MK319 is a lot better sounding than the MK219 so you might want to get the MK319 instead. That said, I might go pick up a pair of MC012s to use for drum OHs. when they go back down to $99 a pair.
I can get the 219 from GC for $36, but why? I can get the 319 for $50, and it is generally a better mic. Quality control can be questionable at best with the cheaper Oktavas, so I don't doubt there are 219's that sound good. Then there's Littledog's. Oktava's like a box of chocolates...Richie
No. Go for the MK-319 or the MK-012 for $50 at GC, as the deals are available (the $50 price is off and on again).
I have a couple of MK-219s here that I got back before the other Oktava microphones got really cheap, and they're serviceable units that are free of most of the known problems earlier Oktavas had. They are reasonably well-matched, but really do sound substantially different from the MK-319s I have here, which surprises me as I wasn't expecting anything so noticeable between microphones that are alleged to be the same save for the housings.
